Abstract

Cultural heritage tourism plays a crucial role in preserving local traditions while contributing to economic growth, making it a key focus for sustainable development. The objective of this study is to explore the dynamics of cultural heritage tourism in Balangir, Odisha, evaluating its role in economic development and identity conservation while advocating for sustainable practices. The study is exclusively based on secondary sources of data except site visits and interview with local key stakeholders, including local community members, tourism officials, cultural experts, and representatives from relevant organizations to analyze the challenges and opportunities of cultural heritage tourism in the region. The collected data was analyzed using a combination of qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. The data obtained from interviews were subjected to thematic analysis. The findings highlight issues such as inadequate infrastructure, limited community participation, and the need for stronger conservation efforts. To address these challenges, the study suggests a balanced approach integrating cultural preservation, community engagement, and sustainable tourism practices for long-term benefits.
